Green Products: ATTITUDE 2 in 1 Laundry Detergent

Convenience is the M.O. with ATTITUDE’s 2 IN 1 Laundry Detergent + Fabric Softener, which combines cleaning functionality with fabric softening. But does this one-stop product really deliver efficiently on both fronts?

I had high hopes, as ATTITUDE (which offers eco-friendly cleaning products certified by EcoLogo, one of the most recognized certifications in North America) has become one of the go-to green cleaning brands in our household. And, I was not disappointed—mostly.

Cleaning. This vegetable-based, biodegradable laundry-detergent-and-fabric-softener duo cleaned efficiently, load after load, for everything from bath towels and sheets to toddler clothing caked with the meals du jour. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised with the cleaning ability of Attitude’s 2 in 1—it truly assisted with getting the dirt, grime, and stains out of our abundant laundry pileup.

This product is lightly scented; laundry loads emerged from the dryer with a faint hint of scent (we tested ATTITUDE’s Mountain Essentials scent). Nothing overpowering—just a clean, fresh smell.

And, the good news is that, unlike many commercial detergents, ATTITUDE’s product fragrances are toxin-free—they’re derived from natural ingredients, hypoallergenic, and made without CMR (Carcinogens, Mutagens or toxic for Reproduction) compounds. They also respect IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standards.

Softening. On the fabric-softening front, ATTITUDE’s 2 IN 1 detergent also delivered. But, perhaps not quite as effectively as I’d hoped.

While combining detergent with fabric softener into one product is highly appealing—it saves both time and money—the softening effect doled out with this combo product is slightly less noticeable than if a separate fabric softener was used in conjunction with a laundry detergent.

Still, the difference was not noticeable enough to stop me from using this time-saving product again. And, its green credibility is highly appealing.

Green Cred. ATTITUDE’s made-in-Canada cleaning products are some of the greenest in the green cleaning category, with the testing certifications to back up their claims). According to the company, its 2 IN 1 Laundry Detergent + Fabric Softener is free of carcinogen ingredients and by products (IARC group 1 & 2).

It’s also free of 1,4-dioxane and ethylene oxide (tested by independent laboratory), and free of enzymes, optical brighteners, and animal tallow derivatives. In addition, most of Attitude’s products are vegan and safe for septic tanks. The icing on the green cake? According to ATTITUDE, this product is CO2 neutral: its manufacture and use make no contribution to climate change.
