Lighthouse Goes Orange

The Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis, a not-for-profit manufacturing and packaging organization with a dedicated social service mission, has announced that its Orange Magic cleaner/degreaser product has earned Bio-Based, Bio-Preferred certification from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). As a result, the Lighthouse can proudly display the USDA’s Bio-Preferred program logo on all its Orange Magic product labels.

John W. Thompson, president of the Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis, said, ”Our Orange Magic cleaner/degreaser was developed in the lab at the Lighthouse manufacturing plant in Berkeley, Missouri, and formulated, produced, and packaged by employees who are legally blind and visually impaired. We are proud that Orange Magic has earned Bio-Based, Bio-Preferred certification from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.”

USERS AND USES

“This certification will help make Orange Magic popular among our customers in government, military, and business sectors and among consumers, added Thompson. “Orange Magic has a non-toxic and non-flammable formula with no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and is a very effective cleaner with a refreshing scent that can tackle any cleaning job on walls, floors, appliances, machinery or any washable surface.

USDA VERIFICATION

Orange Magic’s Bio-Based content of 64 percent was verified by independent labs monitored by the USDA. Ron Buckhalt, USDA Bio-Preferred Program Manager, explained: “Bio-based products provide opportunities to help add value to renewable commodities, and also create jobs in rural communities and generate investment income.”

Orange Magic is available through the Lighthouse website athttp://www.lhbindustries.com or by calling the Lighthouse at 314.423.4333. It is available in 12 packs of 22-ounce “trigger spray” bottles and one gallon jugs. It is being sold under the SKILCRAFT® brand, which is recognized by 95 percent of federal government purchasers, and is being distributed through AbilityOne™ sales channels. AbilityOne is a federal initiative to help people who are blind and disabled find employment through nonprofit agencies that sell products to the U.S. government. AbilityOne is coordinated by National Industries for the Blind (NIB) and National Industries for People with Significant Disabilities (NISH).
